Exogenous melatonin induces tolerance to drought stress damage in seedlings and soybean plants

چکیده

Melatonin (ML) is an indolamine that regulates a wide range of physiological processes as growth roots and shoots, antioxidant enzyme activity, seed germination, photosynthetic efficiency promoting stress tolerance in plants, mitigating the harmful effects abiotic stress. Effects pretreatment soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) seeds with 10, 30, 60 90 μM ML were evaluated seedlings under osmotic measuring germination speed index, root protrusion, growth, DM. Under stress, increased index at 10 (239%), 30 (194%) (189%); 5th-day protrusion by 290%, 214%, 185% 85% (10, 60, respectively). The application (328%), (224%), (265%), (129%) length, followed DM stressed seedlings. Drought reduced efficiency, ROS, enzymatic activities soybean. In second experiment, well-watered (100% field capacity) (WW) drought (DS) plants received 50 ML. rate CO2 assimilation net 28% (2 d after application) 48% (5 application). enzymes activity (catalase peroxidase) enhanced leaf area WW however decreased plants. An number seeds, pod numbers, total mass, observed WW. numbers (27%), (33%) mass (27%) These results demonstrated mitigated negative produced on seedlings, acted inducer, improving yield condition.

Evaluation of Tolerance of Some Soybean Genotypes to Drought Stress

In order to recognize the soybean tolerant genotypes, a greenhouse as factorial experiment was conducted in form of randomized complete block design with three repetition in 2017 in Damavand. The first factor contained 15 soybean genotypes and second factor included two levels of normal irrigation and irrigation disruption in time of podding. The traits included plant height, reproductive ...

Melatonin enhances plant growth and abiotic stress tolerance in soybean plants

Melatonin is a well-known agent that plays multiple roles in animals. Its possible function in plants is less clear. In the present study, we tested the effect of melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) on soybean growth and development. Coating seeds with melatonin significantly promoted soybean growth as judged from leaf size and plant height. This enhancement was also observed in soybean pr...

Field Phenotyping of Soybean Roots for Drought Stress Tolerance

Root architecture was determined together with shoot parameters under well watered and drought conditions in the field in three soybean cultivars (A5409RG, Jackson and Prima 2000). Morphology parameters were used to classify the cultivars into different root phenotypes that could be important in conferring drought tolerance traits. A5409RG is a drought-sensitive cultivar with a shallow root phe...

Genetics of Drought Stress Tolerance in Crop Plants

Ensuring stable crop yields in an era where climate change threatens traditional agricultural practices through altered rainfall patterns and increased urban consumption has become a vital concern in global food security. Projected freshwater availability for irrigation indicates that between 20 and 60 Mha of irrigated cropland may have to be reverted to rainfed management [57]. Formerly irriga...

Evaluation of oxidative stress tolerance in maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings in response to drought.

Seedlings of selected six genotypes of maize (Zea mays L.) differing in their drought sensitivity (LM5 and Parkash drought-tolerant and PMH2, JH3459, Paras and LM14 as drought-sensitive) were exposed to 72 h drought stress at two leaf stage. Alterations in their antioxidant pools combined with activities of enzymes involved in defense against oxidative stress were investigated in leaves. Activi...
